CAZORLA
The best Nature Park in Spain for seeing wildlife at close quarters. Year after year our groups have been able to spot Golden Eagles, Ibex, Mouflon, Wild Boar, and Red Squirrels to mention but a few. We are now hoping for a glimpse of the first young Lammergeier reared from chicks inside the park and recently released.
When you couple the abundance of wildlife with the breathtaking never ending scenery of Spain’s largest Nature Park, you’ll understand why our walkers keep coming back. Towering Black Pines clad the limestone mountains and border the impressive gorges and pinnacles. Water is everywhere and the River Guadalquivir rises within the park. These are Andalucia’s green lungs, and you’ll certainly feel refreshed and healthier by the end of the week.
Package includes, 5 days guided walking, 1 cultural tour of historic Ubeda, 4x4 vehicles, 7 nights accommodation will be at Hotel Guadalquivir in Cazorla town. Meals including wine are taken at a variety of local restaurants. Free transport.
More Information:
The Parque Natural of Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas
is a crinkled, pinnacled interior where several sierras
converge to form a memorably beautiful wilderness
and nature lovers´ paradise. Spain´s largest
protected landscape covers 2143 km2 of the northern-most
province of Andalucia - Jaen
Endowed in the 1980s with the unique triumvirate
status of Nature Park, Biospheric Reserve and Protected
Bird Habitat; this vast terrain features high plains
(or navas) and deep river valleys. Many of Andalucia´s
rivers rise here, like the mighty Rio Guadalquivir
which flows into the Atlantic. The dramatic towers
and jagged outcrops of limestone karstic rock formations
bring to the area, a timeless quality of a lost and
ancient world.
With water in such plentiful supply, flora and fauna
abound. Ibex, Roe Deer, Wildcat, Pine Marten, Gennet,
Fox, Badger, Polecat, Weasel, Mouflon, and Wild Boar
may be hard but not impossible to spot in a largely
undisturbed landscape.
The park is thickly forested with a mix of endemic
oaks, conifers, larch, elm, strawberry tree and yew,
with an undergrowth of wild olive, lentisc, rosemary,
thyme, heather, rockrose and ivy. By river banks you´ll
find maple, reeds, alder, ash and willow.
The town of Cazorla on the western edge of the park
is our base. A bustling, picturesque
town, it has become the main gateway to the park and
has developed good visitor facilities. Bed and breakfast
lodging is at the 2 star family run Hotel Guadalquivir,
in single and double rooms with en suite facilities.
Other meal arrangements are picnic lunches (at your
own expense) and your group leader will arrange dining
out nightly at a variety of local tapas bars and restaurants.
