A special treat for those who appreciate
getting to know an area in style. We have put together
an itinerary that reflects the diversity of interests
the region has to offer.
The Itinerary
Setting out from the old Moorish stronghold of Tarifa
on the Straits of Gibraltar, we criss-cross the hills
and mountains of the Serrania de Ronda – The
Andaluz Frontera. We spend each night at a new location,
enjoying the best of Andalucian hospitality in picturesque
white villages, historic towns and country retreats.
En route we’ll take in dozens of historic, archaeological,
botanical and natural features, completing our journey
in the verdant Comarca de Antequera.
Visits to historic sites will include a Roman fishing
town and a walled Moorish village citadel, the only
one of its type in Spain. We will also see Paleolithic
cave paintings and etchings and survey the ‘Ronda
Dip’ from a hilltop Roman amphitheatre where
Griffon Vultures glide silently overhead.
One day will be devoted to studying the terrain
and strongholds of a Moorish renegade who defied the
power of the Cordoban Caliphate during his lifetime.
Another outing will be to a Roman necropolis and a
salt lake with over ten thousand resident flamingoes.
We will have ample time in Ronda to take in the many
winding streets and tapas bars of the old quarter
as well as the recently restored Moorish baths, considered
the finest in Spain.
Board and Lodging
Our accommodation is in the very best hotels and
private houses in towns, villages and the beautiful
countryside. A converted convent, a Moorish ‘cortijo’
and a magical white village inn will be among our
overnight stops. A la Carte dining includes traditional
and international cuisine and fine wines. We like
to make a special feature of lunching in the leisurely
Andaluz style.
As we travel through the countryside, there will
be opportunities to stop and see a wide variety of
plant and wildlife. Bring binoculars and cameras to
enhance your enjoyment of an unforgettable holiday.
